In a separate bowl, cream shortening or butter and sugar, add egg, vanilla and nutmeg. Slowly add buttermilk or yogurt and dry ingredients. Roll out dough on a lightly floured board, cut out large circles of dough with a glass. Bake at 425°F for 12 minutes. Remove and immediately sprinkle with white granulated sugar. Yields: 1 dozen
